Inspired by Little White Lies

I’ve been missing in action for the past few weeks, work has been busy and exciting, life has been fun and consuming, I haven’t had the time to dedicate to inspiring things. That’s all about to change. I’ll be blogging like crazy soon and bringing you the following:

inspiring food
inspiring outfits
inspiring bloggers
inspired outfits
inspired destinations
inspiring people; and
much much more.
I had the pleasure of helping two fantastic friends celebrate ‘significant’ birthdays on Saturday over a long lunch with cocktail affair in the evening, it was a great chance to catch up with people I don’t get to see too often, who’s company I always enjoy, all asking… when are you blogging next? So here I go.

Over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend I took one of my fabulous friends Jane along to see an amazing movie - Little White Lies. A modern and French take on the 80’s classic ‘The Big Chill’, this fabulous film took me on a journey of friendship, passion, laughter and heartache. It follows a group of friends embarking on their annual summer break tainted by one being involved in a serious accident. What unfolds is a group grappling with the little white lies they have been telling each other, and having to face up to them.
Directed by Guillaume Canet starring an amazing cast including Marion Cotillard François Cluzet and Benoit Magimel, this beautiful film was shot against a stunning backdrop of Cap Ferret (destination: yes please) it's a movie which symbolises what friendship is, what we all endure, and the little white lies we tell each other.
Not unlike The Big Chill, this movie offers a fantastic soundtrack, featuring music by Jet, Damien Rice, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, Antony and The Johnsons to name a few. I'll be putting this up loud in my car very soon!
I'm in love with this film, I laughed out loud, it made me think, had me wiping away tears, and most of all made me realise that with any group of friends we all have our little white lies.

Inspired by a Song

I’ve been looking for something all week to get me out of my winter slump, some kind of inspiration. Sitting watching Ellen at lunch – it happened. A song that brought a big fat smile to my face, a performance that made me laugh out loud.

Before I tell you what song it is, I’ll let you in on a little secret, I've often been told I have quite the ‘bad' taste in music. I like to refer to it as ‘eclectic’! I love a bit of everything - from classical, opera, old school, hip hop, grunge, pop, dance, alternative, folk and the list goes on. Music is an expression of one’s self and it's an integral part of my life. It gets me through the day, it makes me laugh, cry, scream, dance, jump for joy, brings back memories from travel, old loves, food, books and people.

I loved this song the first time I heard it.  Every time I hear it, I just want to get up and break into a little dance. What a great way to start the weekend…

Somebody said you got a new friend
Does she love you better than I can?
There's a big black sky over my town
I know where you're at, I bet she's around

Yeah, I know it's stupid
I just gotta see it for myself

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

I'm just gonna dance all night
I'm all messed up, I'm so out of line
Stilettos and broken bottles
I'm spinning around in circles

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

So far away but still so near
The lights go on, the music dies
But you don't see me standing here
I just came to say goodbye

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own

I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me, ohh
I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own
